This coming weekend, Rubina Carmona will be honored with the Gordon Ekvall Tracie Memorial Award by the Ethnic Heritage Council of the Pacific Northwest. This award recognizes those artists who have made a significant contribution in the preservation and presentation of ethnic arts in our community. At it's 26th Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony, the Ethnic Heritage Council will present this tribute to Rubina Carmona, expert Flamenco dancer and singer, who has dedicated her life to this artform, passing on her knowledge and expertise to a new generation. She is the creator and director of La Peña Flamenca de Seattle, a community based group of aficianados and emerging professioanals.She maintains a rigorous schedule of teaching, choreographing, and performing with La Peña and professional ensemble Carmona Flamenco.

    and thanks for sharing your experience in jerez. i'm glad you had a great time.

    i love El Pipa! he has a unique style to his movements, while still being quite traditional. and he seemed like a nice person when he was here, though i was too shy to talk to him. :) gracious and demanding are good qualities in a teacher, so i'd love to take classes with him sometime.
